Ongoing Events:
Weekly Online Tournament (WOT):
Every Monday Night from 8-9pm we host an online tournament on chess.com! Keep an eye out for a variety of different formats including Fischer Random (Chess960), Bullet and special openings!
Daily Boards:
As a staple of the Chess Club, the Daily Boards (and Xiangqi) are located between the Robert Webster Building and the Quadrangle. They will be out every week, Monday to Fridays from 10am-5pm (weather permitting). Message in #looking-for-game in our discord to find any players nearby looking for a game!
Term 1 Events:
O-Week Term 1 2026:
Visit us at our O-Week Stall in the Quad from Monday Feb 9 to Thursday Feb 12! Play some chess, sign up to our club and make some new friends! We are also running a stamp rally with PuzzleSoc, RiotSoc, HoyoSoc, RubikSoc, LofiSoc and TTGSoc. Make sure to get your stamps in to win a prize!
Online Blitz Prize Arena:
On Friday the 13th of February, we will be hosting a 2h blitz tournament on chess.com! First prize is $50! Any ratings welcome. Make sure to join our socials (especially our discord) and the club on chess.com to participate!
Blitzfriending:
In Friday Week 1 of Term 1 (Feb 20 12pm-3pm), we will also set out some boards for our termly BlitzFriending x XiangQi! Make some new friends over chess and XiangQi! Keep updated with our socials for more information.
Games Galore:
On the 26th of February, our Daily Boards will be set out in the Roundhouse from 12pm-7pm. Come down to interact with some other clubs like PuzzleSoc and BridgeSoc!
UNSW Weekender:
Our first ACF/FIDE rated classical 7 round 60+30 event of the year! It will be held March 20-22 over Friday-Sunday. There will be one round on Friday and 3 rounds on both Saturday and Sunday. More details to come via our socials!
Flex-Week Tournament:
Take a break from studies and participate in an online Friday arena in Week 6 (March 27).
Inter-University Collab
Once again we are collabing with the biggest university chess clubs in Sydney! A night of fun games, snacks and trivia. Will be sometime around Week 8 (Apr 6-10). Follow our socials for details closer to the date!
End of Term 1 Tournament
Compete in the esteemed tri-annual traditional event and win up to $200! The tournament will be 9 rounds, in a Swiss format, with a nicely paced 5|3 time control.
Date: 15th of May (Friday) 1pm-5pm, (First Friday after Exams).
